Ludwar Law disability law firm office in Calgary Alberta

Thorough Review and Unwavering Commitment

James Ludwar was called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1996 and the Alberta Bar in 1999, and has spent 30 years representing individuals whose disability claims were denied or terminated by their insurers.

We founded this firm on a simple, powerful belief: that a thorough review of every detail and the unwavering determination to litigate a case all the way, if necessary, achieves far better results for our clients than settling too soon.

Strong Insider Knowledge

Our foundation has been significantly strengthened by the addition of Mark Dron. Mark spent nearly 20 years as Senior Counsel for one of Canada’s largest disability insurers.

This brings something no purely plaintiff-side practice can offer: direct knowledge of how insurers handle files from the inside.

Combined Experience

Together, James Ludwar and Mark Dron bring over 50 years of combined experience to every matter they take on.

James Ludwar, founder of Ludwar Law, 30 years of plaintiff disability litigation

James Ludwar

Founder

Thirty years of plaintiff-side disability litigation.

James has dedicated his career to representing claimants whose insurers denied their benefits, often arguing they were not disabled, consistent, or credible enough. He is adept at building strong cases, preparing clients for litigation, and knowing when to pursue a better settlement.

In recognition of his commitment to outstanding legal representation, practice, and dedication, James was honoured by his peers as a 2025 Lexpert Ranked Lawyer.

Mark Dron, Senior Counsel at Ludwar Law, former Senior Counsel at major disability insurer

Mark Dron

Former Senior Counsel for one of Canada’s largest disability insurers.

Defended disability claims across Western Canada.

Mark understands what an insurer looks for when reviewing a file. He knows what prompts them to settle and what makes them resist. He is aware of the procedural errors they make that plaintiff counsel often overlooks, and he knows that those errors can be the difference between a standard settlement and a claim that also warrants aggravated damages, damages for mental distress, or punitive damages.

That knowledge now works for you.

Susan Lyle, Senior Legal Assistant and Office Manager at Ludwar Law for 21 years

For over 21 years, Susan has been a foundational part of our firm. As our Senior Legal Assistant and Office Manager, she serves as the initial, welcoming voice for most clients and provides a steady, consistent presence behind every file. Her tenure with us surpasses the practising careers of most lawyers in this field.

Ludwar Law team fighting for the full value of your disability settlement

Fighting for the full value of your settlement.

Most disability law firms work from one direction. James has spent 30 years building plaintiff cases. Mark has spent nearly 20 years watching how insurers evaluate and defend those exact same cases from the inside.
When they review a file together, they are not just looking for the strongest argument. They are looking for what the insurer missed, what the insurer got wrong, and what those mistakes are worth.

Accessible throughout the process.

If you want to meet your lawyer face to face before mediation, during the file, or at any other point, please give us a call.

We also represent clients throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan and work remotely with clients outside Calgary, arranging in-person meetings when the case requires them.

We respond to every inquiry on the same business day, Monday through Friday.
